main memory:-
  • Due to the direct connection with the CPU it is known as a central memory.
  • The main memory holds the data and the Programs that are needed by the CPU.
  • The main memory consist of RAM.
Cache memory:-

  • Cache memory is at the top level of the memory.
  • This is high speed memory used to increase the speed of current programs.


Type of memory
1. RAM - Random access memory.
  • RAM is best known form of computer memory.
  • It is known as access memory as it can access any memory directly if you know the row and column.
Types:- 1. Static RAM
              2. Dynamic RAM


2. Rom - Read only memory
  • It is used for storing programs that are permanently resident in computer.
Types of Rom:- 1. PROM
                           2. EEPROM
                           3. EPROM
                           4. ROM
